What is telehealth?
One of the new things to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic was creative and flexible ways to interact with your healthcare team. At Creekside, this includes offering telehealth appointments to our patients.
Telehealth involves seeing your chiropractor or physiotherapist via a video chat. We have decided to keep this as a long-term option to offer to our patients. Currently, this is being offered by our physiotherapist Chris Jahnig, and Trevor McArthur from our chiropractic team.
What do we do at the visit?
The visit starts very much like a typical visit to your chiropractor or physiotherapist. We start off by discussing what your concern is. This part of the visit is particularly important with telehealth as our exam is slightly limited. Next, we will go through different movements and positions to determine what pattern your condition is displaying. From there we will discuss the findings and move onto what our treatment options are.
This is all great, but what is a physiotherapist or chiropractor going to do for treatment since they can’t use their hands to treat me?
If you have been to our clinic in person before, you’ll have noticed that we like to have our patients move around. Sometimes, this is a stretching exercise and sometimes this involves strength training in the gym. Luckily, we know that exercise combined with education about your condition are two of the most effective ways that we can treat a lot of different conditions that impact your muscles, bones and joints. Of course, this “hands-off” approach will not work for everyone, but for many of our patients, this is a great alternative treatment option!
What do I need?
For this visit, all you need is a stable internet connection and a device that can access the internet with a camera for the video chat. You also need some space to be able to move around at home. The visit goes through our online booking and medical records software, “Jane.” Jane has put together a wonderful guide for how to join your telehealth visit here https://jane.app/guide/telehealth/how-to-join-your-online-appointment-for-patients
We are able to bill for these appointments through most insurance carriers and our front desk staff will give you a call following the appointment to get this sorted out.
